Lippersley, Round Hill and Beamsley Beacon

Length 11 miles
Duration 6 hours
Going - Moderate - no steep climbs but some moorland tracks to follow. The ground can be boggy after rains and there are streams to cross

Price - £60 per person (max six people).
Good footwear and appropriate clothing is necessary as there is nowhere to shelter on the moors, some experience of hiking would be helpful, the paths occasionally cross streams and depending on the weather these can be 'interesting'. A good level of fitness is required. Bring your own drinks and packed lunches - and most of all a camera - the views are superb

This is a brilliant walk starting through woodland then out onto the high moors for most of the way and with stunning views across the Yorkshire moors and Dales. Various old boundary markers are to be seen in the heather. There is an abundance of ground nesting birds as well as Red Kites and occasionally Buzzards.

We start our walk by going up through the delightful Timble woods and out onto the open moorland of Denton moor. Following a moorland track through gorgeous heather, we come to Lippersley Pike - an ancient shooting butt. Looking down we can see remains of Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements and the Roman road which went from Ilkley to Aldborough. Now overgrown it winds its way across the moors and disappears into the deep heather.

We then take a rutted track to a gamekeepers hut and then follow the path up onto Blubberhouses moor via the ancient crossroads of Gawk Hill Gate then onto to Round Hill. From here you can see Beamsley Beacon in the far distance, and over to Simons Seat and parts of the Yorkshire Dales.

From Round Hill we follow a path over to Old Pike and Beamsley Beacon. We will rest a bit at the beacon and enjoy the stunning views across Wharfedale and the Yorkshire Dales.

We then return to Round Hill, Gawk Hill Gate and finally Lippersey and back to the cars.
