Rocking Hall and Barden Moor
Length 6 miles
Duration 3 hours
Going - Moderate
Price - £50 per person (max six people).
Good footwear and appropriate clothing is necessary as there is nowhere to shelter on the moors, some experience of hiking would be helpful, although not necessary as there are good paths up to the Hall. Bring your own drinks and packed lunches - and most of all a camera!

This is a lovely little walk taking in the superb views over Barden moor. Designed primarily for photographers, however the curious or wildlife fan will certainly benefit from this walk.

The start is the layby on the Moor Road near Thruscross Reservoir - which in itself has a history, and the walk takes you up through Barden moor to the shooting lodge of Rocking Hall, built in 1758 for the Bolton Abbey estate, and the old farmhouse behind it. Between the Hall and the farmhouse is a strange stone that once rocked on it's base - but sadly this stone has now slipped and no longer rocks. The stone has many Bronze Age 'cup' marks on it and the whole place is a little eerie too.

This is classed as an 'Easy' walk with good paths all the way to Rocking Hall - with just one Stile to climb, if the adjacent gate is locked.
This is a superb walk - with excellent views all around. You really get a sense of isolation here and it is one of my favourites.
